Paul Farmer died at the age of 62 this week, peacefully and in his sleep. A good death, but too early. As a Doctor who spent his life ministering to the poor in Haiti, Africa and other places, as well as setting up hospitals and health systems where they did not previously exist, he saved the lives of countless individuals.
Paul has a stellium in Scorpio in the 12th house. Sun, Mars and Neptune, as well as Scorpio rising. His chart ruler is Pluto in Virgo on the Midheaven, an apt description for a healer, Virgo being the sign of health. He was apparently very charismatic and raised much money for the organization he co-founded, Partners in Health. Partners in Health provides health care in the poorest areas of developing countries. His ability to raise money could be due in part to Mercury in Scorpio on the Ascendant (passionate speech) combined with Jupiter in Sagittarius in the first house.
Confucius said, "To be able to practice five things everywhere under heaven constitutes perfect virtue." He begged to ask what they were, and was told, "Gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness, and kindness. Dr. Farmer exhibited all of this over the course of his life. His work was well captured by Tracy Kidder in the book Mountains Beyond Mountains. Our entire family read this inspiring book.
Dr. Farmer had a Moon Uranus conjunction in Leo in the 9th house, which is akin to having Moon in Aquarius. Those with the Moon in Aquarius work for humanity. In the 9th house it indicates his many travels.
A stellium of 12th house planets can indicate a very spiritual individual. Scorpio is determination and to accomplish what he did over his lifetime, that was much needed.
I encourage those who have not read Kidder's book to do so, and those who don't know about Partners in Health to read about it and consider donating in the memory of Dr. Farmer.
Inspiring man with a powerhouse chart - an agent of transformation in the world.
His star burned brightly and far too briefly….
