There are a few political speeches that I will always remember. One of those was that of Jesse Jackson at the Democratic Convention on July 19, 1988. His speech has been called electrifying. And it was.

You can still watch this speech. It's oddly relevant at this moment in time.

What in his chart made Jackson such a great orator? He had a Scorpio Midheaven, with Mercury in Scorpio in the 9th house, square to Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio. Mercury in the 9th house sees the big picture. Scorpio gives power to Mercury. With Mercury square to Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, there is even more strength added to the voice.

On July 19, 1988, transit Pluto was exactly stationary at 9 Scorpio 45. Jackson's Mercury was 9 Scorpio 46. His message was to bring everyone together for the greater good. Transit Jupiter was on his Uranus at 29 Taurus on the day of his speech.

Jackson was born with Saturn conjunct Uranus in Taurus. On the day of the speech, there was a Uranus Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius.

Pluto to Mercury is not necessarily an easy transit. Mercury is the nervous system. Pluto to Mercury can put strain on ones nerves. With any transit, there is an option for a positive or a negative use of the planetary energy.  Jesse Jackson surely rose to the occasion.
