Inauguration Day 2021

Updated: Jul 5, 2023

"People who think that the way forward is to brush this under the rug seem to have missed the fact that there is ticking time bomb under the rug." Statement of Former Representative Tom Perriello, a Democrat from Virginia who was a special adviser for the war crimes tribunal in Sierra Leone. Speaking on the mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6th.

Joseph Biden will be inaugurated President on January 20, 2021, in a ceremony that starts at noon. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the first President to be inaugurated on Jan. 20. This occurred on Jan. 20, 1937, after the passage of the Lame Duck Amendment. This is somewhat fitting as Roosevelt was an Aquarius and the choice of noon on Jan. 20 usually places the Sun at zero Aquarius.

This is the first time in US history there will be a Saturn Jupiter conjunction in Aquarius with the Sun at the top of the inauguration chart. The 10th house in the chart represents the President and his agenda and this conjunction seems to be a very favorable one for moving forward with a new agenda, especially one based upon science and also a focus on progressive goals such as climate change. Mercury in Aquarius in the 10th house also favors progressive thinking, interest in inventions and reforms, and a wealth of plans.

As the 9th house is international relations, Venus (love and diplomacy) in Capricorn (what is time tested) in the 9th house should help address the lost standing the U.S. has suffered in the world. Venus is well aspected with a sextile to Neptune in the house of friends and trine to Mars Uranus in the 12th house.

In tandem with this illustrious 10th house in this chart is the Void of Course Moon (no more aspects prior to leaving the sign) in the last degree of Aries in the 12th house, conjunct Mars and Uranus in Taurus. The sociological correspondence for Mars conjunct Uranus is violent people, fighters for freedom, and revolutionaries. (Ebertin) Void of course means can mean things don't come to fruition.

The 12th house can be what lies in the shadows. This stellium of planets (Moon, Mars, Uranus) is all in square to the 10th house stellium in Aquarius. As the world saw on Jan. 6th when the mob incited by a sitting President broke into the Capitol building ( transit Mars was at 29 Aries) there is the potential for violence with this ending degree in Aries, the sign of the warrior. If we take the Moon to represent the public, it means that the mobs have to be dealt with in some manner or democracy will continue to be under threat. Pope Francis recently was quoted in reference to January 6th as saying that even with a people (U.S.) "so disciplined in democracy" there is always "something that isn't right, something with people who take a path against the community, against democracy, against the common good."

These planets in the 12th house (what lies beneath the surface) raise questions about any unresolved issues, such as how to deal with those who desecrated the Capitol and whether or not to proceed with an impeachment or best case, getting Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment.

On a more positive note, the partnership looks good. Juno - which represents the partner - is in 10 degrees Sagittarius in house 7, the sign of the partner. Coincidentally it mirrors the Juno of both Biden and Harris. Biden has Juno at 9 Sagittarius in house 1, and Harris has Juno at 8 Sagittarius in house 6. Juno can indicate picking a partner from another culture and Biden did this when he picked Kamala Harris for his VP.

Both the President and Vice President have angular Saturns in their birth charts. This means that Saturn, the planet of responsibility, is powerful. Biden has Saturn in Gemini in house 7 and Harris has Saturn at 28 Aquarius almost conjunct the 10th (house of career and social standing).

Harris may play a very strong role in this presidency as she is entering into her second Saturn return, which is a time of increasing responsibility. Saturn to the 10th is a career peak. Some astrologers believe a planet in a sign is triggered when a transiting planet moves into the sign of the natal planet. This has just occurred for Vice President Harris. With Saturn trine her Sun and sextile her moon in the natal chart, she deals well with responsibility. All this is to say Biden and Harris are well equipped as a team to handle any challenges. On a side note the progressed Midheaven of Harris on inauguration day is 29 Aries, which aptly mirrors the moon of the Inauguration Chart of the first female vice president. So to sum up, while there won't be huge formal parties the eve before the inauguration, and thus less of a hangover from drinking there will be a psychic hangover from the violence fomented on January 6th, and this is reflected in the inaugural chart. Some issues will hopefully be resolved within the month as the progressed Moon moves into Taurus, but Mars makes an exact conjunction to Uranus in March and the secondary progressed moon conjuncts Uranus and Mars on the 12-14th of September of this year. And as many astrologers have noted, the United States is headed toward a Pluto return in February of 2022 and the last time Pluto graced this degree and sign we were involved in a revolutionary war.
