Neptune in the 10th house and Glamour

Neptune has been in Pisces now since April of 2011. Neptune rules the movies, the ocean, dreams, photography, impressionist paintings and all that is ethereal. Neptune is in the sign of its rulership in Pisces and we have seen the golden age of cinema and television. Neptune also rules viruses as they are not visible to the naked eye. It is all that is unseen and ethereal.
One way to learn more about a planet is to study its house placement in charts of famous people, or of people you know.
A few famous women who have Neptune in the 10th house are Jackie Kennedy, Princess Diana, Grace Kelly, and Anne Morrow Lindbergh. If you had to choose a theme, I think it would be glamour. It may be that it takes more than Neptune in the 10th to imbue one with glamour, but the above named do define glamour.
In her book The Astrological Neptune and the Quest for Redemption, Liz Greene has this to say about Neptune and glamour:
"Fashion is the marketplace expression of that elusive quality we call glamour. When we try to be fashionable, we hope to become glamorous. Glamour belongs to Neptune, and is as difficult to define. Glamour enchants us; the word itself is a corruption of the Middle English gramarye or magic, which holds us in its spell. "
Jackie Kennedy had a late Leo midheaven, with Neptune in Virgo conjunct the Midheaven. Neptune was also trine to her moon. The Leo style is there, but don't discount the Virgo. The first lady was also very proper and never looked less than perfect.
In the same vein, Grace Kelly, later Princess of Monaco, had a Leo Midheaven with Neptune in Virgo in house 10. Once again, she was both beautiful and always looked so well put together.
Going back in time, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, had a Gemini midheaven (the writer) with Sun Mars Moon and Neptune all conjunct in Cancer in the 10th house. Mercury at 15 degrees Cancer closes out the stellium that began with Sun at 0 Cancer right on the Midheaven. She managed to look glamorous in overalls while climbing out of an airplane.
And Princess Diana had Neptune in Scorpio in the 10th house trine her Sun in Cancer in the 7th. Neptune in the sign Scorpio would add sex appeal and Libra on the Midheaven added great charm. She brought this glamour into hospital wards with her as she cared for the sick and the poor with the moon in Aquarius, and thus she was the people's princess.
Note for most of the above they had to spend at least part of their lives eluding photographers. And, as is often the case, the fairy tale life (Camelot, the Kingdom of Monaco, and Kensington Palace) were not all that they appeared to be. In the lives of all of the above, they had husbands who were cheating on them. That is not say that if you have Neptune in House 10, your spouse will cheat on you. But it can show that disillusionment is part of the Neptune experience.
But Neptune is also magical and certainly for each of the above there were peak moments that were entirely sublime. Imagine Anne Morrow Lindbergh flying over the earth Jacqueline Bouvier photographing the young SenatorJack Kennedy, Grace Kelly filming a move with Cary Grant in Monaco, and Princess Diana dancing in the White House with John Travolta.
Those with Neptune strong in their charts are often highly romantic as well as highly imaginative. They can envision the *perfect moment*, a concept put forth by Jean -Paul Sartre in Nausea. (He has Sun conjunct Neptune)
I also found it interesting that the cartoonist Roz Chast, who is always hilariously depicting frazzled females also has Neptune in Libra (great artist) in the 10th house trine Mars in Aquarius in the 2nd. And as far as I know she has a perfectly happy marriage.
Excellent article. Thanks from a Neptune in the 10th fan
